BMW starts largest OTA software update to date
The BMW OS 7 update includes a number of functional improvements; it also brings new features to the car. Among other things, the Alexa voice service is deeply embedded in the operating system in five countries, users can log in to the car with their driver profile using the My BMW app, and navigation guidance has been extended to more countries.
With the deep integration of Amazon Alexa, it is now possible to use Amazon’s voice service in the vehicle in the same way as customers are already used to at home. Alexa’s capabilities not only affect vehicle-related functions, but everything that is also covered by Alexa in the home or on the road. It is also possible to control compatible smart home devices from within the vehicle. In this upgrade, Amazon Alexa is available for Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Spain and Italy. Alexa integration will be extended to other countries in future upgrades.

The personal driver profile in the BMW can now be transferred to other BMW vehicles via QR code scan with the My BMW app, including rental vehicles. Climate and navigation settings and favourites are automatically transferred to the target vehicle. As also applies to personal settings such as seat position or preferred driver assistance settings. If the customer has linked his profile to the vehicle key, his settings are loaded as soon as he opens the vehicle.
The navigation guidance as an extended function of the steering and lane guidance assistant also supports customers in France, Portugal and Spain with the update. The function suggests a lane change if this is necessary to follow the navigation route.
However, the availability of services and functions depends on the equipment of the vehicle and the respective country. Customers can view the release notes applicable in the respective market on the BMW ConnectedDrive country page.
