Bosch opens new IoT headquarters in Berlin
Berlin is already regarded as Germany’s new startup capital, in particular when it comes to connected technologies. To attract the young high-tech-savvy crowd of engineers, programmers and business model architects, Bosch chose to plant its new campus into the existing creative quarter near the Tempelhof river port. “With our new domicile, we build bridges between our own IoT experts and those of Berlin’s lively digital scene,” said Bosch CEO Volkmar Denner during the opening ceremonies.
More than 250 Bosch employees work on the new campus. Their number is expected to rise to around 400 in the coming years. The IoT experts will advise and accompany customers in the development and implementation of projects for networked solutions. These include solutions from the areas of industry 4.0, networked mobility and Smart City as well as Smart Home. The new location is also the headquarters of Bosch Software Innovations GmbH, which was previously based on the Schöneberger Ufer in Berlin. The subsidiary has been involved in shaping the Internet of Things for around ten years: IoT consultants, software developers, project managers, trainers and other specialists have realized more than 250 international IoT projects to date. The projects are mostly based on the company’s cloud-based software platform Bosch IoT Suite. Bosch has invested a total of around three million euros in the site. The unusual ambient of open workspaces, workshops and even caravans reflects the different working situations of meetings, silent spaces for concentrated working or building and testing prototypes along with customers, said Michael Hahn, board member of Bosch Software Innovations.
