The reports did not mention financial details but the deal is likely being stimulated by problems with semiconductor supply chains that have recently been experienced causing the halting of vehicle production lines.

The electronics content in automobiles is increasingly rapidly and DRAM content is doubling every few years. It went from 2Gbytes per vehicle in 2019 to 4Gbytes in 2021 and is expected to reach 8Gbytes per vehicle in 2024.

Becayse of this trend SK Hynix created an automotive unit in 2016 and it has achieved memory chip supply deals with Continental and Hyundai Mobis.
