Bosch updates smart sensor hubs
The devices combine inertial measurement unit (IMU) or accelerometer with a proprietary microcontroller in a single package and are intended to enable always-on sensor applications in wearables, hearables, AR/VR devices and smartphones.
To address compute-heavy tasks such as automated activity recognition and context awareness, the BHI260 and BHA260 feature the “Fuser2” – a 32bit floating point CPU with 256kbytes on-chip SRAM. The CPU draws 950microamps at 20MHz clock frequency and 2.8mA at 50MHz clock frequency. The processor delivers up to 3.6CoreMark/MHz.
The new Bosch sensor hub family includes state-of-the-art
The 16-bit MEMS sensors are a 6-axis IMU in the BHI260 and a 3-axis accelerometer in the BHA260. They provide up to 25 GPIOs for BHI260 and up to 12 GPIOs for BHA260, and support for integration of other sensor devices, including GNSS and various localization systems.
The devices are supported through an open development platform including an integrated software framework in ROM, evaluation kits and a Software Development Kit (SDK).
“Compared to existing hub solutions, our second-generation sensor hubs offer a significant increase in processing power, whilst further reducing power consumption,” said Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO of Bosch Sensortec, in a statement.
The BHI260 comes in a 44-pad LGA package measuring 3.6mm by 4.1mm by 0.83mm. The BHA260 is packaged in a 22-pad LGA package and measures 2.7mm by 2.6mm by 0.8mm. The pair will be available in high volume 3Q18.
