C3Nano says China behind Cambrios patent claims

C3Nano Inc. was formed in 2010 as a spinout from Stanford University and the company claims it is the performance leader in conductive films used in displays and touchscreens and has enjoyed considerable success in this area.

Recently Cambrios has asked for a review of C3Nano US Patent 9,183,968 on the grounds that its own silver nanowire (SNW) conductive films were commercially available and used into display products sold worldwide years prior to C3Nano filing the ‘968 patent (see Cambrios seeks to invalidate rival’s patent).

C3Nano argues that the fusing technology that is the basis of its ‘968 patent – and its NanoGlue technology – is critical to the fusing of nanowires to reduce junction resistance and provide the performance needed for foldable smartphones and tablet computers.

C3Nano also points out that Cambrios was a MIT spin-off that became insolvent in 2016 and that when the assets were auctioned off they were purchased by Champ Great International Corp., a company connected to TPK Holding Co. Ltd. of China. Cambrios is now a subsidiary of CAM Holding Co., a British Virgin Islands registered company and a subsidiary of TPK Holding Co. Ltd.

C3Nano added that it has won several business opportunities over Cambrios and other competitors due to the superior performance of C3Nano products.

“As a reincarnated Cambrios tries to restart its business under new Chinese ownership and management, it has sought quick monetization of the patents acquired from the defunct US company,” said C3Nano in a statement. “In comparison, C3Nano has benefited from stable management and R&D talent to advance its technology multiple generations ahead of competitors, and has industriously focused on commercialization of its technology to deliver the best performance and value to customers.”
