The camera features of high image resolution up to eight megapixels, as well as excellent night vision characteristics. The opening angle has been significantly increased to 125 degrees, in order to be able to recognize cross-traffic objects even earlier. The complete kit consists of the intelligent MFC 500 camera, various satellite cameras and a central computer for Assisted & Automated Driving Control Unit (ADCU), which can be combined according to customer requirements, the company explained.

The growing importance of the camera is also reflected in the number and variety of applications in the vehicle: ranging from forward-looking cameras, surround-view cameras with wide-angle lenses, to dedicated cameras for mirror replacement and back-up support.

The requirements in the field of environment recognition are also constantly increasing, ranging from simple object detection for parking via the joint processing of surround view camera images to the control of complex situations in road traffic, such as cross-traffic situations with approaching lateral traffic. In addition to classical computer vision methods, the MFC 500 uses neural networks, which can be scaled according to the available hardware. By connecting the camera to the electronic horizon (“eHorizon”) and “road database”, road information and landmarks can be transmitted to and received from the cloud to locate the vehicle and enable driving ahead. Another advantage of being connected is the fact that the software and thus the functions are always kept up-to-date by means of over-the-air updates.
