The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) has announced that the CCC Digital Key Certification is now available for NFC implementation to its industry-leading vehicle and device members.

The certification is pivotal to instilling trust among consumers and the industry because CCC Digital Key provides a global standard for interoperability. This enables auto and device manufacturers to deliver secure, user-friendly experiences for digital key access.

“This is an incredible milestone for the CCC as the certification gives members the ability to increase their business value and deliver a much-desired experience to consumers,” said Alysia Johnson, president of the Car Connectivity Consortium. “This watershed moment was only possible because of the collaboration among our members who truly believe in the need for a universal standard for digital key technology.”

The CCC Digital Key Certification delivers four key benefits.

  • Enhanced credibility: Certification instills trust among consumers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Proven interoperability: Certification establishes global compatibility of products and services for a seamless experience when using CCC Digital Key, regardless of car or device.
  • Brand confidence: When customers and partners see the certification logo, they know they will get the CCC Digital Key experience that is trusted, interoperable and works as expected.
  • Market opportunity: Members receive increased visibility to consumers and partners and advantages for growth.

“The CCC Digital Key Certification is a critical piece we’ve needed for a universal standard to be possible,” said Glen Stone, the technical director of the Car Connectivity Consortium. “The certification not only bolsters a CCC Digital Key product as credible, but it also validates that the product will work seamlessly with other CCC Digital key offerings in the ecosystem.”

“We’ve been looking forward to this moment,” said Jaeyoung Shin, Head of Wallet R&D Group from Member company Samsung. “Smart devices such as the Samsung Galaxy smartphone will be more capable of offering a secure and seamless user experience. The ability for customers to conveniently access their cars is a great way for us to provide additional value to customers.”

The certification mark signals to consumers, partners, and stakeholders that the product meets industry and program standards for the best device-to-vehicle connectivity experience. Members can feature the CCC Digital Key mark on products, manuals, marketing materials, websites, and more.

“Displaying the CCC Digital Key mark will be a game changer for automakers because it tells customers they can access their cars securely and seamlessly with their smart device by simply identifying the mark,” said Daniel Kuelzer, Function Owner Digital Key from Member company BMW.

“The ongoing commitment and participation from so many vehicle OEMs, Tier 1 and global device providers speak to the long-term value and unique opportunity we are bringing to the market,” said Stone.
