Cavium and Oracle collaborate on Arm v8.1 support for Oracle Linux

The ThunderX2 series is Cavium’s second generation 64-bit Arm v8-A server processor SoC, which integrates custom cores supporting single and dual socket configurations. The family is optimised for high performance, as well as outstanding memory bandwidth and capacity. New ThunderX2 processors are fully compliant with Armv8-A architecture specifications and SBSA and SBBR standards.

Oracle Linux 7 is intended for open cloud infrastructure and delivers performance, scalability, and reliability for enterprise SaaS, PaaS and traditional enterprise applications. Oracle Linux 7 is available as a developer preview release for the ThunderX2 platform and is packaged as an ISO image that can be used for standard installation. Software downloads, documentation and product information are available from the Oracle website.

To support this engineering collaboration, Cavium has directly delivered key open source software contributions, such as optimizations for GCC and LLVM, as well as critical kernel support into for enablement of ThunderX2.
