China’s Chunxing acquires US optical MEMS maker
Chunxing is acquiring a controlling stake in Calient and will provide manufacturing services to the company. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Calient’s S-Series optical circuit switches are successful in the fast-growing data center and compute cluster applications. The switches are based on the company’s proprietary 3D microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology that uses silicon micro mirrors to switch fiber-optic signals from port to port. The company will continue to operate from its Goleta, California location under the Calient brand.
Chunxing has 2,400 employees and operates a factory of 300,000 square meters focused on aluminum fabrication for the telecommunications industry
