Chinese startup aims to take ARM cores from data center to edge
CIX Technology Co. Ltd. (Shanghai, China) has raised tens of millions of US dollars with plans to develop chips and systems compatible with the ARM instruction set.
The company was founded in October 2021 by engineers and managers from global semiconductor and IT companies and many with experience at Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
Prior to founding CIX, CEO Hank Sun was the SOC director at AMD and was also the former head of the AMD’s semiconductor business unit in China.
Fang Liu, CTO of CIX Technology, has 22 years of experience in semiconductor industry. Before joining CIX, Fang worked at Meta (Facebook) as lead SOC architect, building a custom augmented reality SOC. Prior to joining Meta, She was lead SOC architect for AMD. Fang also accumulated 11 years at Apple architecting Apple CPUs for six generations and GPUs and SoCs for two generations, Before that, Fang also served on the CPU design staff for P.A. Semi and Sun Microsystems.

“CIX’s team is a top and senior technical team with an average experience of more than 20 years in the industry, and deep understanding of technology, products, market and ecology. We are full of confidence in the team and believe that CIX will become the leader in the industry.”
Initially CIX will focus on general computing that can be applied to high-end tablet computers, notebooks, desktops, AR and VR. After that the company intends to go after metaverse and edge computing, cloud computing markets.
