The new IoT System is designed to enable industries such as manufacturing, oil & gas, utilities, transportation, public safety and smart cities to deploy and accelerate IoT solutions. The IoT System is based on six key technology elements:

Network Connectivity includes purpose-built routing, switching, and wireless products available in ruggedized and non-ruggedized form factors.

Fog Computing, a distributed computing infrastructure for the Internet of Things (IoT), brings data processing, networking, storage and analytics closer to the devices and applications that are working at the network’s edge, enabling customers to analyze and manage data locally.

Security is designed to unify cyber and physical security and allow users to monitor, detect and respond to combined IT and operational technology attacks.

Data Analytics is facilitated by an architecture optimized to implement analytics and harness actionable data for both the Cisco Connected Analytics Portfolio and third-party analytics software.

Management and Automation features designed to offer enhanced security, control and support for multiple siloed functions to deliver an easy-to-use system for managing an increasing volume of endpoints and applications.

Application Enablement Platform offers application programming interfaces (APIs) for industries and cities, ecosystem partners and third-party vendors for designing, developing and deploying their own applications on top of the IoT System capabilities.

The company also introduced more than 15 new associated IoT products, including network connectivity equipment, 360° security cameras, physical security analytics, data analytics services, and management and automation software.
