Clean energy partnership marks ‘new era’ for solar vehicles
Donghan New Energy Automotive Technology, a subsidiary of Hanergy, signed the strategic cooperation framework agreement with Bluecar on designing, manufacturing and producing the solar electric vehicles using hanergy’s gallium arsenide solar films and solid state lithium batteries.
Bluecar has mature automotive design, R&D and mass production capabilities for the solar technologies. Since its launch in 2011, Bluecar electric vehicles have been in mass production for 7 years using the Bollore Group’s lithium metal polymer solid state battery (LMP) technology.
Donghan and Bluecar will also look at a joint business model for intelligent travel and public transportation. In 2008, Bluecar proposed the concept of Internet-sharing cars and successfully operated on a global scale, with extensive experience in smart travel and public transportation. Hanergy has already landed many transportation projects in ecological cities such as intelligent bus stations in mainland China.
The deal will also see the development and construction of R&D centres, production bases and other projects in Asia, Africa and the Americas.
“We at Hanergy are happy to lead the solar electric fleet adoption around the globe and are glad to partner with Bollore Group. We are now looking forward to working with Bollore Group to fully guarantee the life and the safety of solar vehicles around the globe,” said Zhang Bin, Hanergy’s senior vice president.
Through its subsidiary Alta Devices, Hanergy has four world records for its thin film solar cellsbased on copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) and gallium arsenide (GaAs) technologies, and has applied for more than 5,000 patents. It has already worked with Audi, BAIC and FAW to develop thin-film solar roofs for various models of the cars.
The Bollore Group that is principally engaged in the development, production and operation of electric vehicles in Europe, Singapore and the United States.
