Eyeo is developing a new filter for image sensors. They claim the old and traditional technologies make the sensors for 70% ‘blind’
With 15 million Euro seed funding (co-led by imec.xpand, Invest-NL, joined by QBIC fund, High-Tech Gründerfonds and Brabant Development Agency) they will drive evaluation kit development, prepare for large scale manufacturing and marketing.
The technology they develop is a new color filter that goes on top of the imaging sensors in our phones and cameras. The current filters differentiate the red, green and blue that goes to the sensor, but also block a large portion of the light. Eyeo claims that 70% of the lights is lost.
Their research is focusing on a new filter that is channeling the light instead of blocking. The filter is using vertical waveguides to split the different colors that go to the sensors. They hope their development will dramatically enhance the quality of phones and cameras and make them also very suitable for dark night shooting.
The first evaluation kits will be available in two years.
