Communication Controller bundles V2X and OTA
The Integrated Communication Controller is networked with numerous electronic control units (ECU) in the vehicle, such as the powertrain, multimedia, airbag and braking systems. The device thus enables electronics developers to collect and analyze a wide range of vehicle operating data in real time. According to Hyundai Mobis, the controller can process much larger amounts of data than standard V2X ECUs. This includes data from various sensors, such as radars, lidars and cameras, as well as data obtained by autonomous driving.
In addition, it communicates this data through permanent wireless network connections. This enables the implementation of various Connected Car services such as vehicle remote control, automatic software updates of various systems as well as eCall functions, whereby accident information is automatically forwarded in emergency situations.
With this approach, Hyundai Mobis wants to enable car manufacturers to realize a convergence of automotive and information technologies. For example, it will enable automated updates of vehicle software. Manufacturers can thus offer new services that optimize vehicle functions through ECU updates and update safety, comfort and drive functions.
The collection of operational data on all incidents occurring while driving, as well as control information, will thus become accessible for AI-based real-time traffic analysis; drivers will be able to be informed in real time about the best possible routes and parking information at their destination.
Detailed vehicle data such as powertrain status, fuel efficiency and driving habits can not only support real-time fault diagnosis, but can also promote the implementation of an open service ecosystem such as integrated parking reservation, insurance based on driving habits, intelligent home connection solutions and AI support.
