Flusso Ltd. (Cambridge, England) has launched the FLS122 air velocity sensor. The device comes in a 6-pin DFN package measuring 3.5mm by 3.5mm.

The FLS122 sensor has been developed to enable board-mounted air velocity measurements for thermal management and filter monitoring. Target applications include data centres and gaming PCs that rely on efficient air cooling to maximise performance and energy-efficiency. It is also applicable to consumer appliances such as HVAC, air purifiers and vacuum cleaners.

The FLS122 supports bidirectional flow sensing and real-time temperature and air speed measurement of up to 20 metres per second.

The CMOS MEMS die at the heart of the component is derived from the one used within Flusso’s FLS110 mass flow sensor (see Cambridge startup launches world’s smallest flow sensor). The sensor can be supplied with support material including an evaluation kit, hardware design guides, sensor firmware and a software development kit, as well as application engineering support.

Samples of the FLS122 are available to qualified customers on request.

Flusso was spun-out of The University of Cambridge in 2016 to commercialise innovative sensor technology. The company is currently developing its first gas sensing products for market launch.
