Japanese component manufacturer Rohm has developed the GMR50 series of compact shunt resistors in a 5.0 mm x 2.5 mm package (2010 package type). These components feature a high nominal power of 4 W (at an electrode temperature of TK = 90°C) and a resistance range from 5 mΩ to 220 mΩ. Their resistance tolerance is specified with F (±1 %). With their temperature range of -55°C to +170°C, the shunt resistors are suitable for current measurement in motors and power supply circuits in automotive and industrial systems.

The GMR50 series combines a revised electrode construction with optimized product design, thus improving heat dissipation to the printed circuit board. The result is a 39% smaller mounting area compared to conventional products of the same power rating. In addition, the new shunt resistors are more resistant to overcurrent loads and ensure high accuracy in current measurement. This is also the case when loads are applied that exceed the rated power.

Shunt resistors are used for current measurement in automotive applications and industrial plants. Especially in the automotive sector, the increasing functionality increases the number of motors and control units. At the same time, however, the installation space for applications is limited. As a result, mounting density is increasing, which in turn increases the demand for components such as compact power shunt resistors.

The GMR50 series shunt resistors are available immediately.
