The demand for components to be mounted in the ECU for electrification of various automotive control functions, autonomous driving, transmission of information and others has increased sharply recently. More compact inductors for power circuits save space on the PCB. This is especially necessary for advanced and powerful driver assistance systems (ADAS), which require an ever-increasing number of components.

In addition to their compact dimensions of 2.0 x 1.25 mm2 (L x W), these inductors are characterised by the metallic magnetic material developed by TDK for the core. These thin-film inductors are designed for a wide operating temperature range of -55 °C to +150 °C, which is currently the highest values for this product range. In addition, thanks to their resin electrode structure, they offer improved resistance to mechanical stress, vibration and shock.

The inductance values of the two new inductors are 0.56 µH and 2.2 µH, respectively, and the saturation currents are 3.0 A and 1.2 A, respectively. Series production will start in August 2021.

In addition to the new types, the TFM series includes a range of products with a nominal voltage of 40 V for use in automotive power circuits connected directly to the 12 V battery.
