IC Insights gave its ranking in a press release issued earlier this month (see Pause forecast for CMOS image sensor market) while Yole’s ranking appeared in April 2015 (see Omnivision loses ground in CMOS image sensor ranking).
Both agree on the top three vendors, although they have them in a different order. What is more remarkable is that Yole includes Canon and OnSemi at positions four and five in its ranking; two companies that IC Insights does not include at all. Similarly IC Insights has Sharp and SK Hynix ranked at positions four and five while Yole does not include either of these companies in its top ten.
Yole’s list goes:
Rank Company 2014
- Sony 27%
- Samsung 19%
- Omnivision 17%
- Canon 7%
- On Semi(Aptina) 6%
- Toshiba 4%
- STMicro 4%
- Nikon 3%
- GalaxyCore 3%
- SiliconFile 2% : PixelPlus 2% : Pixart 2%
Other 4%
IC Insights ranking is thus:
Rank Company 2014
- Sony 32%
- OmniVision ~16%
- Samsung ~14%
- Sharp ~8%
- SK Hynix ~6%
- GalaxyCore ~4%
