Connectors are optimized for automotive applications
The latest automotive infotainment and assistance systems require connectors that meet two important requirements: On the one hand, they must function reliably at high temperatures. On the other hand, they must ensure stable contacts in the event of vibrations and shocks. Kyocera’s new board-to-board connectors with a contact distance of only 0.5 mm were developed specifically for these requirements: They are resistant to heat up to +125°C and have a patented tolerance compensation mechanism that guarantees a connection tolerance of ±1.0 mm (connection tolerance to contact distance: 200 %) in both X and Y directions. This value is 2.2 times higher than with standard connectors.
This high accuracy guarantees reliable connections, as these connectors can compensate for a greater positional offset or slippage of the components to be connected already during assembly and are more insensitive to vibrations and shocks during operation.
The 5656 series connectors are available in two versions: a straight version, which is mounted at right angles to the PCB, allowing the contact connector to be inserted vertically, and a rectangular version, which is mounted parallel to the PCB, to allow the contact connector to be inserted horizontally.
The range includes further variants. The version with contacts for power supply is designed for the transmission of higher currents such as for connection to mains or battery current. Combinations with pins for signal and power supply are also available.
