Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) fabricates EMI O-rings and EMI Gaskets from the electrically conductive silicones and fluorosilicones that we make at our ISO 9001:2015 facility.
SSP tests these elastomers at our in-house laboratory and offers a full certificate of analysis (COA) for every batch of materials. Many of our EMI elastomers have been independently tested, and some are MIL-DTL-83528 QPL certified.
SSP has an in-house toolroom with machinists on staff who make the molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures for the EMI O-rings and EMI gaskets that we fabricate. If you need slash sizes, we can provide you with M83528 part numbers made from EMI extrusions that we produce in-house. Whether you need cut or molded EMI shielding products, you can get them sooner because of SSP’s vertical integration.
SSP also offers alternatives to Parker-Chomerics CHO-SEAL® materials and UL 94 V0 offsets to GORE GS2100 and GORE GS5200 flame-retardant EMI shielding. In addition, we can supply you with products made from SSP shielding silicones and fluorosilicones that are corrosion resistant, fuel and solvent-resistant, low outgassing, or reinforced with an inner layer of conductive fabric.
Four Types of EMI Shielding Products
SSP fabricates four types of EMI shielding products.
- EMI O-Rings
- Die cut EMI gaskets
- Flash cut EMI gaskets
- Molded EMI gaskets
Standard and custom products for military and civilian applications are available, and SSP can provide you with EMI connector gaskets for D-sub, USB, RF/coax, and power electrical connectors.
EMI O-Rings
EMI O-rings are donut-shaped gaskets with applications in electric vehicles, robotic arms, medical infusion pumps for IVs, 5G telecommunications, and aerospace electronics. This type of EMI shielding fits a groove and is crushed into place during installation. SSP can mold EMI O-rings as single pieces or bond them into cut lengths of extrusions.
Die Cut EMI Gaskets
Die cut EMI gaskets are cut into specific shapes and sizes from sheets or rolls of EMI elastomers. SSP makes its own dies in-house and fabricates die cut EMI gaskets with a high degree of uniformity, even across higher volumes. Precise dimensions, parts nesting, and punched holes with specific radii are readily achievable. SSP can also apply conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes for peel-and-stick parts.
Flash Cut EMI Gaskets
Flash cut EMI gaskets use CNC equipment to cut EMI elastomers into specific shapes without custom tooling. Flash cutting is ideal for rapid prototyping and short runs, and this gasket fabrication method produces extremely smooth edges with minimal loss of material. This digital manufacturing process works from your CAD file and supports flash cut EMI gaskets with a conductive PSA.
Molded EMI Gaskets
Molded EMI gaskets are produced using compression molding, a process that places a preformed rubber material into the cavity of a heated mold. SSP makes its own molds in-house and produces compression-molded EMI gaskets using the same materials that we supply as sheets, rolls, and extrusions. For large picture-frame style gaskets, molding can increase material yields and reduce material waste.
