Controller handles charging of commercial e-vehicles via pantograph
The VC-EVCC-P (Electric Vehicle Communication Controller for Pantograph Charging) is a generic charge control device for 24V vehicle electrical systems. The device is qualified for series production and can be installed directly in the vehicle. The charge control unit is also suitable for prototypes and evaluation purposes.
In addition to the classic design, where a pantograph is mounted on the vehicle roof and docks to the charging station from there, the VC-EVCC-P also supports inverted pantographs. In this increasingly used version, the pantograph is located at the charging point and from there establishes the connection with the electric vehicle, for example a bus. The wireless communication with the charging infrastructure, which is necessary for charging processes with inverted pantographs, is carried out by a CAN-WiFi gateway available as an accessory. It enables wireless communication based on IEEE 802.11a/n in the 5 GHz band. The radio approval allows the use of the CAN-WiFi gateway within the European member states.
A fast connection to the vehicle is guaranteed by the implemented CAN channel with the standardized SAE J1939 protocol for the commercial vehicle market. The diagnostic messages according to DM1, DM13 as well as the J1939 network management are supported. When inverted pantographs are used, charging communication is carried out in accordance with the OppCharge V1.3.0 protocol. With the release planned for the second half of 2020 the VC-EVCC-P also supports charging processes via a pantograph mounted on the vehicle roof according to the DIN-70121/ISO-15118-2 protocol. The charge control unit VC-EVCC-P is developed according to the standards of the automotive and commercial vehicle industry. It complies with protection classes IP6K6K, IP6K7 and IP6K9K. The protection class of the CAN-WiFi-Gateway manufactured according to industrial standards is IP65.
