Cortus claims Microsemi stole trade secrets
Microsemi, which was already a licensee Cortus under a software license agreement, still lists Cortus as part of its ecosystem partner program but has just become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microchip Technology Inc. (Chandler, Arizona) in a deal that closed May 29, 2018.
Cortus has retained law firm Perkins Coie LLP (Seattle, Wash.) as counsel for the arbitration.
“IP is at the heart of our company and therefore it needs to be protected with the strongest determination possible and at all costs,” said Michael Chapman, CEO of Cortus, in a statement.
One possibility is that the two companies have disagreed over the transferability of IP rights and licenses associated with Microchip’s acquisition of Microsemi. A spokesperson for Cortus said by way of email: “We cannot say too much about this litigation which is ongoing.”
