CSEM ports Bluetooth IP to 22FDX
The IP targets the 22nm FDSOI process and is aimed at portable audio devices.
Most hearable devices rely on Bluetooth Classic, the high data-rate version of Bluetooth that does support high-quality audio but has 10x more power consumption than Bluetooth Low Energy. LE Audio, the BLE standard written for streaming audio has been announced but most equipment builders foresee the co-existence of BT Classic and BLE for several years.
CSEM has released an RF platform that supports both BT and BLE and is aimed at True Wireless (TWS) earbud designs and other hearables.
CSEM’s dual-mode IP follows in the footsteps of IcyTRX, its BLE design available on 55nm CMOS from Globalfoundries. IcyTRX provides connectivity for millions of chips worldwide.
By targeting 22FDX CSEM has designed a dual-mode version of IcyTRX with a small footprint that cuts BLE power consumption in half with maintaining RF performances (sensitivity, output power, immunity against interferers). IcyTRX-DM supports the BT5.2 revision designed to consume down to 3mW, and as low as 4mW in BT Classic EDR mode.
Alain-Serge Porret, CSEM’s Vice President of Integrated & Wireless Systems says, “The advanced low-power capabilities of GLOBALFOUNDRIES 22FDX platform combined with their excellent support has enabled us to exceed expectations in this game-changing product.”
IcyTRX-DM is available for licensing to some customers.
