Continuous Computing® has announced that Cygnus Broadband has chosen its Trillium® Long Term Evolution (LTE) eNodeB software to support the company’s LTE picocell base station. Cygnus Broadband, also a San Diego-based company, is providing a complete LTE eNodeB reference design that features application transport optimization techniques and intelligent management of Radio Frequency (RF) and network resources.

In response to soaring demand for rich multimedia content, Cygnus Broadband is focusing on bringing network intelligence to the edge of mobile networks and was attracted to the advantages Continuous Computing delivers with its deployment-proven, integrated and performance-verified protocols and reference applications. The company chose Trillium LTE software for the time-to-market benefit of being able to build an access point solution around a highly versatile and widely-deployed solution.

“Being able to add an innovative edge-focused startup like Cygnus Broadband to our lineup of LTE customers is an important win for us,” said Todd Mersch, director of product line management of Continuous Computing. “Sheer volume is only part of the problem with mobile data traffic. The issue is exacerbated by the complexity of that traffic, and Cygnus brings a unique solution that takes intelligence and capacity management to the edge to handle the type of multimedia content that will become much more pervasive with LTE networks.”

“In a market as crowded and fast-moving as wireless, our ability to differentiate our traffic and capacity management solutions is predicated on having instant access to top-quality software from partners,” said Ken Stanwood, CEO of Cygnus Broadband. “Trillium is a reliable, field-proven wireless software solution that allows us to focus our resources on driving our own innovation and delivering to market best-in-class network edge solutions quickly.”

With its 21 LTE customer wins extending from the Radio Access Network (RAN) for femtocells through macrocells to the Evolved Packet Core (EPC), Continuous Computing is a clear leader in the LTE market. Based on more than 20 years of telecommunications-focused innovation, Trillium wireless protocol software has become synonymous with high-quality and superior performance.

Trillium LTE wireless protocol software meets the unique requirements of network equipment providers, including:

  • Comprehensive protocol support from LTE Femtocells to the EPC;
  • Standards-based protocols starting with the latest 3GPP Rel-9 standards for the E-UTRA 36 series specifications;
  • Pre-integrated software to simplify development and enable more focus on application development;
  • Reference applications for key LTE nodes including eNodeB, MME (Mobility Management Entity), SGW (Serving Gateway) and PDN GW (Packet Data Network Gateway);
  • Multi-threaded stacks optimized for multi-core processing architectures, including fast path modules for critical data plane protocols like eGTP;
  • Experienced Professional Services for rapid integration and full platform design and development support.
