Daimler, Qualcomm announce strategic partnership

The collaboration between the two companies will focus on developing an inductive charging process for electric vehicles. Halo, developed by Qualcomm, enables high power densities at an high overall power level. Customers of Halo-equipped battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in-Hybrids (PEHV) can thus charge their batteries without the need to use a charging column. In addition, Qualcomm’s WiPower technology enables wireless charging of electronic devices in the car.

Daimler also will benefit from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon technology which enables new automotive applications in the areas of communications, comfort, energy efficiency, infotainment and security. These aspects are congruent with Daimler’s development focus.

According to Qualcom Technologies general manager Derek Aberle, the collaboration is the logical extension of the company’s partnership with Mercedes AMG Petronas in the field of formula one racing sports. “Our commitment to motor sports devises innovation and progress that can enrich the automotive industry”, Aberle said.
