Thanks to the electronic system known as MirrorCam, the driver now has a better view where previously rearview and wide-angle mirrors covered large areas to the right and left of the A-pillar. This is a particular advantage at intersections, when manoeuvring and in tight bends. The driver no longer has to look so far to the right or left to see the traffic behind him. What’s more: mirrors are rigidly mounted so that the end of the trailer can move out of the field of vision when cornering. With the MirrorCam, on the other hand, the image from the camera inside the bend pans along with the trailer, so the driver can keep the trailer end in view at all times. In principle, the system is set up for standard trailers, but panning can also be individually controlled. In modern trailers, this happens automatically when the trailer transmits its geometry data to the towing vehicle.

The optimised aerodynamics can also reduce fuel consumption, the vehicle manufacturer promises: Up to 1.5 percent less fuel can be attributed to the optimised wind-slip thanks to MirrorCam.

The MirrorCam is intended to solve yet another notorious problem in the truck driver’s cab: Fogged or dirty mirror glass and side windows have always been a problem. Thanks to the position of the cameras high up on the vehicle, a special coating and the digital transfer of the image to a display in the driver’s cab, misting and dirt can hardly harm the system. Helpful on cold and humid days: the camera is automatically heated at temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius.
