DC/DC converters offer low current consumption

To ensure stable operation of switching regulators, conventional converters find it difficult to combine both fast transient responses and high conversion efficiencies. Rohm’s new DC/DC converters use proprietary Nano Pulse Control power supply technology. This enables ultra-fast operation at 2.2 MHz that does not interfere with the AM frequency band (max. 1.84 MHz) while achieving a high down-conversion ratio – an optimal and highly efficient technology for automotive applications.

The BD9P series delivers stable operation during supply voltage fluctuations and reduces output voltage overshoot to less than 10% compared to competing products. The innovative circuit technology minimises overshoot and undershoot and reduces the number of output capacitors to a minimum. The application of this control method allows both high efficiency and fast load response. The efficiency of the new DC/DC converters is approximately 85% at low loads, and up to 92% at full load. An optimised quiescent current consumption ensures the lowest possible discharge of the battery in stand-by or power-off mode.

The new components come in the VQFN20FV4040 package with dimensions of 4.0 mm x 4.0 mm x 1.0 mm or the HTSSOP-B20 package with dimensions of 6.5 mm x 6.4 mm x 1.0 mm and offer a switching frequency of 2.2 MHz. Voltages of 3.5 V to 40 V are required for the supply. The maximum output current is 1.0 A or 2.0 A. The BD9P series operates in a temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C.

The combination of the BD9P products with the BD9S series of secondary DC/DC converters enables users to configure automotive power supply circuits more quickly and efficiently.
