DDR4 SODIMMs from Swissbit offer increased performance, less power
To match its focus on the industrial segment, Swissbit has opened its DDR4 portfolio with the 8 GB ECC SODIMM at DDR4-2133 speed which enables a performance improvement of 30% compared to the DDR3 standard. In the medium term, the DDR4 technology promises a performance increase of up to double the current DDR3-1600 data rate to DDR4-3200, with only a minimal increase in thermal power consumption. At the same time, the supply voltage has been reduced from 1.35V to 1.20V. Other features include improved data bus termination, dynamic bus inversion, internal grouping of banks, and the supply of the wordline boost voltage via the module connector. They reduce power consumption, and thus additionally reduce the heat generation of the module. A further advantage of the DDR4 standard is the error protection of the command/address bus. This allows transmission errors of the main control signals to be detected; if an error occurs, the transmission can be repeated. Thanks to 260 signal and voltage pins, users can now use modules both with and without ECC support with the same pin assignment. This compatibility simplifies the system board design and allows a more flexible system specification.
