Dell, Intel show Ventiva silent ultrathin laptop concept
Ventiva in the US has worked with Dell and Intel to replace mechanical fans with electronic airflow, showing off a proof-of-concept thin laptop design.
Ventiva’s ion-based ICE9 thermal management suite is based on the company’s patented Ionic Cooling Engine (ICE) technology. This eliminates the need for mechanical fans, using intelligent software control to enable optimal performance in electronics devices without any moving parts, noise, or vibration.
The ultra-compact ICE9 solution enables laptop designs with a height of less than 12 mm, rivaling the thinnest laptops on the market today. Its space-efficient form factor not only supports sleek, thin designs but also provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with the flexibility to integrate additional functions such as AI accelerators or larger battery packs into designs.
“Having embarked on a quest to banish fans from laptops, the team at Ventiva is proud to show the first public demonstration of those efforts,” said Carl Schlachte, Chairman, President and CEO, Ventiva. “This design is proof that laptop users no longer need to hear mechanical blowers or tolerate their CPUs throttling down when running certain tasks. Dozens of engineers at Dell, Intel, and Ventiva worked on every facet of the design with a singular goal: to produce a laptop that is utterly silent, thin, and totally cool—and we did it. The end of the fan is in sight.”
Alongside the Dell design at CES 2025 in Las Vegas this week, Ventiva is also showing its 40W cooling system for laptop OEMs.
