TriLumina, founded in 2010, has focused on light sources for lidar and interior illumination. Denso has invested $9.16 million in TriLumina to speed up the development of technologies for use in semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles.

TriLumina near infrared (IR) emitters are capable of high power illumination for laser radar, depth sensing and smart illumination. The company is targeting lidar, driver monitoring systems and applications in Advance Driver Assistance Systems, as well as, depth sensing and gesture control for industrial robotics, commercial and consumer electronics markets.

The investment was made through Denso International America Inc. (Southfield, Mich.) and its office in Silicon Valley, which specializes in working with startups.
