Ricardo’s 2020.1 software version marks the completion of the Ricardo Transmission Analysis Solution, which provides a seamless tool chain based on the SABR, FEARCE and VALDYN products. It enables developers to optimise transmission systems for all vehicle types – even those complex systems found in hybrid drives. This robust tool chain provides a comprehensive virtual product development environment that enables the creation of designs with improved fuel economy, shift quality and driveability, and – increasingly important for all-electric vehicles – optimized noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics. The tool chain, available with version 2020.1, enables all these functional benefits while offering the potential for significantly shorter development times.

In addition, the new software version offers the benefits of recent development efforts to improve material fatigue calculations for structures in FEARCE and to improve the implementation and calculation speed of the method of the German Research Council for Mechanical Engineering (FKM).

Ricardo’s WAVE engine power and gas dynamics simulation product has also been further improved, especially in the faster than real time version WAVE-RT. The increased integration enables users of competing commercial products to import their models into WAVE and WAVE-RT much faster and more efficiently than before.

“I am pleased that we have been able to deliver the new 2020.1 version to Ricardo Software customers,” said Kimberly Matenchuk, Managing Director of Ricardo Software. “Version 2020.1 is the first to provide the complete Ricardo Transmission Analysis solution chain, providing a much needed virtual product development environment for tomorrow’s more complex and demanding electric powertrains. At the same time, we are offering a host of enhancements to our entire suite of state-of-the-art CAE software that will certainly benefit our global customer base”.
