
Design win; Dialog’s Bluetooth LE silicon enables Tile Slim tracker
Tiles are Bluetooth tracking tags that the user attaches to any item that might go astray, and associates with an app. Operating modes are; call (via Bluetooth LE) any missing item that is in BLE range and it will ring; click a Tile to make the associated phone ring (both in BLE range of about 30m); or flag a tile as lost-or-stolen, and any other Tile that comes within range of it will report its location to a central server, then viewable by its owner.
Tiles have a built-in, non-replaceable battery (you are invited to replace/recycle the Tile after 1 year) so power usage is key, a point emphasised by Dialog in notifying the design win. Power is also constrained as the Tile moulding is 2.4 mm thick, “the World’s Thinnest Bluetooth Tracker”.
Dialog’s DA14580 SmartBond System-on-Chip (SoC) is the part employed in Tile Slim, enabling communication with a smartphone or other iOS or Android smart device via Bluetooth low energy. The DA14580 includes intelligent power management features and an ARM Cortex M0 processor and claims the industry’s highest Bluetooth performance, at the lowest power consumption, maximizing the tracker’s battery life.
