The StreetScooter Work XL is based on the chassis of a Ford Transit – in contrast to its two predecessors “Work” and “Work L” which were developed by Deutsche Post DHL. Already during the current year, the partners plan to manufacture about 150 pre-series vehicles; by end of 2018, some 2500 series units will be built. With the Work XL, Deutsche Post DHL will serve third-party customers as well as captive ones.

The electrically operated transporter will have a load volume of 20 cubic meters and provide space for over 200 packages. The Work XL has a modular battery system with 30 to 90 kWh, allowing for a range between 80 and 200 km.

The Work XL differs not only in size and size and range from his “siblings” WORK (4 cubic meter load volume) And Work L (8 cubic meter load volume), but also in the design approach. The cargo space, which is equipped with shelves to store parcels, is walkable and can be accessed from the driver’s cabin. The vehicle can be loaded via the tailgate and a sliding door on the right side. Through the charging power of up to 22 kilowatts, the average charging time is three hours.

According to Deutsche Post DHL, the concept enables reducing CO2 emissions by about 5 metric tons per year and vehicle; at the same time, 1.900 litres of diesel fuel can be saved. The planned volume of 2.500 such vehicles in services of Deutsche Post DHL will sum up the environmentally effective reductions to 12.500 tons of CO2 and 4.75 million litres of diesel fuel per year.
