Deutsche Telekom launches M2M developer community
The new platform is part of Deutsche Telekom’s Developer Garden and offers developers access to tools such as APIs, programming guidelines and software development kits (SDK) to develop and sell applications for M2M.
"Over the last three years, Developer Garden has grown into a successful hub for programmers," said Jürgen Hase, Head of Deutsche Telekom’s M2M Competence Center which is spread across Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. "Over 7,000 users are already active on the portal. We now want to continue this success story and integrate our M2M Developer Community into the Developer Garden portal. We are offering developers of M2M solutions a knowledge exchange and networking platform, expert support, as well as practical APIs and help with programming SDKs. The Developer Community will be an ideas catalyst to support the growth of M2M technology. We believe that in the future, we will need new ideas and solutions for a variety of applications in different industries."
For example, a smoke detector alarm can be monitored online utilizing the appropriate M2M API, and by meshing-up with Deutsche Telekom’s SMS API can be further enhanced with SMS alarm notification. The finished M2M application can then be directly marketed and sold via Deutsche Telekom’s M2M Marketplace. The community also provides developers with the opportunity to exchange information and ideas with Deutsche Telekom experts and other community members on the forums.
“Our M2M Developer Community is designed to serve as a central point of contact and exchange for M2M developers globally,” said Rainer Deutschmann, Senior Vice President Core Telco Products at Deutsche Telekom’s Digital Business Unit. “Following the foundation of Deutsche Telekom’s M2M Competence Center and the launches of the Global M2M Association, our Partner Program and the M2M Marketplace, the M2M Developer Community is now a further stepping stone in executing our global M2M strategy”.
"We are convinced that the M2M market will boom over the coming years," said Hase. "According to the OECD, the number of networked machines will rise to approximately 50 billion in 2020. There is no doubt that the demand for the various options provided by this technology will increase dramatically in nearly all industry sectors – the applications range from process optimization through to completely new business ideas," he said.
The M2M Developer Community will be further expanded by providing dedicated programming environment for creating and testing of rich M2M solutions, with the possibility for mesh-up with an ever growing number of telecommunication and partner APIs and software components. Via partnerships, Deutsche Telekom’s Developer Garden platform reaches up to one million potential developers worldwide.
