Within the scope of the E-Deutz strategy, Deutz plans to combine its existing product spectrum of diesel engines with electric drives. Towards this end, the company acquired Torqueedo GmbH, a systems solutions provider for integrated electric and hybrid boat drives. The takeover now acts as a catalyst for the electrification of Deutz’ own product offerings, providing substantial expertise for future developments in the company’s off-highway core business.

At the upcoming Intermat trade fair in Paris, Deutz plans to show an electrified off-highway drive solution that consists of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor along with suited power electronics and a battery pack. The latter is based on the lithium ion battery technology for BMW’s i-series of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The components of Deutz’ electrified powertrains are scalable according to the customer’s demand in terms of performance and capacity. “With our E-Deutz Strategy, we are aiming to become the market leader in innovative drive systems in the off-highway markets,” explained Deutz CEO Frank Hiller, adding that customers can pick the combination of conventional and electric drive components that best suits their respective application.
