Development environment integrates vehicle-to-grid communication
Elektrobit (EB) is adding two important elements to its Classic Autosar product line. These are designed to provide automotive manufacturers and suppliers with a solution for ISO 15118-compliant communication between electric vehicles and charging stations. The solution simplifies and accelerates the development of next-generation electric vehicles with the advanced vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities required by ISO 15118 in an Autosar electronic vehicle control unit (ECU) development environment.
EB’s innovation is in line with the trend of increasing BEV redesigns. According to market researcher IHS Markit, electric cars will account for more than 10 % of all new cars sold in 2025. Car manufacturers are working hard to add electric vehicles to their ranges and bring them quickly into series production. Demand is expected to increase significantly, as is customer acceptance.
To support vehicle manufacturers and suppliers on their way, Elektrobit EB tresos offers V2G ChargeIn: a new, in-vehicle Autosar-compatible software module that – in combination with an ISO 15118-compliant communication stack – enables ECUs to control the communication between the charging system in the vehicle and the charging station. Furthermore, through the partnership with IoT technology company Sevenstax, EB tresos AutoCore now integrates the ISO 15118-compliant SEVENSTAX application stack and supports the latest V2G communication features. The communication and security requirements for these functions are met via standardised Autosar components such as the Internet Protocol stack and security extension modules.
The development of ISO 15118-compliant products for V2G communication poses challenges for both the automotive industry and the charging infrastructure industry. This involves supporting traditional AC/DC charging, external identification means and the latest plug-&-charge functionality. Plug-&-charge, however, requires more complex communication between the electric vehicle and the charging station. To simplify the development and integration process, the software manufacturer bundles all the elements needed for Autosar and V2G-compliant charging in one development environment.
“The race to build next-generation vehicles is leading the industry to re-analyse every part of the car. As software experts, our goal at EB is to make it easier for our customers to provide non-differentiating but necessary features – like V2G communication for electric cars. This allows them to focus on developing unique, differentiating features for their vehicles,” explains Christoph Herzog, Head of Portfolio and Product Management at Elektrobit. “We have integrated the ISO 15118 communication functions into our Classic Autosar development environment. With this, we want to simplify the development process.”
EB tresos V2G ChargeIn also includes a Blueprint application as a roadmap for customers who want to develop their own charging applications.
