Dialog launches partner programme for its open industrial IoT edge server

Dialog Semiconductor has launched a partner programme for the open IoT server technology it acquired with Adesto Technologies.

The SmartServer IoT has modular interfaces for industrial communications protocols such as LonWorks technology, BACnet, and Modbus, and an IP network and data abstraction layer. The system eliminates the requirement to integrate protocol stacks and abstract the data from a variety of device types.

The partner programme gives system integrators and OEMs access to the edge server, based on an 800MHz ARM Cortex A9 processor running Linux, along with an open software suite with freely available integration tools and APIs, certified training, and support. This supports up to 1,000 total devices with 20,000 datapoints.

The aim is to accelerate secure, scalable integration of IoT edge devices and networks with cloud analytics platforms and Operational Technologies (OT) in smart factories, buildings and cities.

The out-of-the-box device drivers, controls and automation services, intuitive management system and easy to use programming tools enables custom applications development and rapid field deployment expediting insights from data, providing safer operations, and creating greater efficiencies and operational cost savings.

Next: RESTful API and MQTT for IoT

The Linux-based platform uses freely available modern RESTful APIs for accelerating web apps and HTML development, and MQTT for custom controls applications for integration with any IoT device or application. It also includes edge services for controls and automation with pre-integrated device and data management apps such as connecting, routing, scheduling, data logging and alarming, all operating at the network edge.

“Following our recent acquisition of Adesto Technologies and Creative Chips, this program is another step in Dialog’s industrial expansion strategy,” said Mark Tyndall, SVP of Corporate Development and GM of Dialog’s recently established Industrial IoT Business Group. “Smart buildings and factories now use artificial intelligence at the edge and in the cloud to collect and analyse high volumes of data. To reap the operational benefits of such innovations, data from legacy operational systems need to fully interoperate with edge and cloud computing technologies.  This has not been easily possible before because of the complexities of industrial control and automation protocols.  SmartServer IoT creates a ‘data fabric’ that seamlessly connects these systems and provides the necessary services to enable superior, data-driven operational workflows for industrial customers.”
