Digital twin boost Munich Hyperloop development
A total of 18 teams took part in the first Hyperloop competition in 2017 with the teams from TUM (Technische Universität München), MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and the Dutch Delft University of Technology emerging as the front runners. The aim is to build a system that can carry passengers or freight in aerodynamic carriages in a tube in near vacuum conditions running close to the speed of sound. This would allow the 560km between San Francisco and Los Angeles to be covered in just 30 minutes.
The 45-strong TUM team has been used software from Siemens PLM Software to develop a digital twin of the prototype system that will be competing in the fourth round of competition this summer. The designers have been trained in NX, a software for computer-aided design, and LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim, an integrated simulation platform for modelling mechatronic systems, inlcuding the motors and power systems as well as the aerodynamic design..
