DSP creates engine sound for electric and hybrid vehicles

The ADSP-BF706 DSP and Electric Vehicle Warning Sound System (EVWSS) firmware enables automobile manufacturers to comply with future safety regulations that are expected to demand external engine sound for EVs and HEVs travelling at low speeds.

The ADI solution can be used for high performance with the ADSP-BF706 or entry level with the ADAU1450 Digital Audio Processor. It is also possible to use the ADSP-BF706 to create in-cabin engine sound. The ADSP-BF706 uses memory mapped quad SPI memory for fast and simple access to stored audio files for the engine sound. It can access up to 24 WAV files simultaneously.

ADI’s Sigma Studio IDE enables OEMs to graphically tune the audio sound for the ADAU1450 to optimise audio performance and reduce development time. A new release of Sigma Studio supporting the ADSP-BF706 is due later this year. A low-cost CAN software stack is available for the ADSP-BF706 for rapid prototyping.
