dSpace expands test competence for automotive radar

dSpace will distribute the systems developed in partnership with miro-sys and ITS globally and integrate them into its own offering. In addition, the companies will enter into a development cooperation, which also includes the acquisition of Intellectual Property (IP) by dSpace. The planned product family includes products for the entire value chain, from sensor testing at chip manufacturers to hardware-in-the-loop protection and end-of-line testing at automotive manufacturers. There are also applications for the new dSpace products in homologation and the aftermarket.

Automotive radar sensors are regarded as key technology for the further development of driver assistance functions and autonomous driving, because radar technology can be used to determine the speed and distance of objects in real time and under extreme weather conditions. The systems from miro-sys and ITS are characterized by precisely generated echoes, wide range coverage and high flexibility. This technology provides users with a critical benefit for the rapid validation and market introduction of in-car radar sensors, according to dSpace in a press release.

The tool provider will market the solutions for testing radar sensors under the product name dSpace Automotive Radar Test Systems (DARTS). The product family consists of customized solutions for a variety of applications, from mobile handheld devices to racks. The range is supplemented by solutions for stand-alone operation or complex radar test solutions that can be used in closed-loop operation together with other simulators and test automation. The systems are modular, scalable and configurable via software. For example, the number of echoes to be simulated, the detection zones, the sizes of the objects to be detected or the Doppler frequencies can be varied. Additional high-level functions, such as immunity determinations (standard interferer), characterization of the radar sensor (power, frequency stability, bandwidth, chirp parameters), test scenarios based on Euro NCAP, extend the scope of application.
