Dual load switch measures 1 x 3 mm for smartphones and wearables
SLG59M1527V is a 16 mΩ dual channel GreenFET3 load switch product based on Silego’s proprietary sub-micron copper power FET technology. This load switch can handle 4.5A max current per channel for 9.0A total. The device uses Silego’s CuFET technology to achieve low RDSON, smallest form factor and improved reliability.
The SLG59M1527 is a full-featured dual channel load switch packaged in a 14-pin STDFN 1.0 x 3.0 mm package. Each channel can be configured and enabled independently. This device features a linear voltage ramp under dynamic loading conditions. The ramp rate on each channel can be independently adjusted by the designer using external capacitors. The device can switch power rails in the range from 1.0V to 5.5V, up to 4.5A continuous current for each channel. The load switch also includes discharge circuit, over current limit protection, short circuit protection and thermal shutdown protection.
“The dual channel 4.5A load switch allows systems to implement power switch-over between primary and secondary power supply rails in a single device, the smallest [available] load switch, one half the size of Silego’s previous record-setting generation.” said John McDonald, Silego’s VP of Marketing.
Features inlcude; VDD: 2.5 V to 5.5 V; IDD (Standby): < 1 µA; Integrated discharge; Multiple protection modes. Applications are in computing power rail switching; primary and secondary power supply switching; and power sequencing.
Also introduced by the same company is a 28 mΩ, ultra-low quiescent current P-Channel load switch; SLG59M1557 is also based on Silego’s CuFET technology. The device can achieve 0.1 µA typical and 1 µA maximum quiescent current in both ON and OFF states. This device has an integrated level shift function for the ON pin, which allows the system MCU to directly turn on or off the load switch without any discrete logic or level shifting components.
“The low quiescent current performance and integrated level shift are ideal features for applications such as wearable electronics and ultra-low power portable electronics… comparing to existing products on the market that only operate up to 3.6 V, the SLG59M1557V’s wide voltage range (1.5 V to 5.5 V) covers the entire single cell lithium-ion battery voltage range.” the company adds.
The first version of this product is introduced in the STDFN package (1.0×1.0x0.55 mm). The STDFN package offers mechanical protection, and can be directly soldered on the PCB or flexible cable without using any PCB under-fill. The STDFN package has a significantly higher mechanical stress tolerance than a WLCSP package, both during manufacturing and end use. This is particularly valuable for wearable electronics which may be frequently dropped by users.
The 59M1557 is also available in Silego’s proprietary Lo-Z ETDFN package technology, which can reduce the STDFN package max height from 0.50 mm down to 0.3 mm.
Use this device in wearable electronics, smartphones and tablets, power rail switching for ultra-low power budget systems; and in extreme space constrained and flexible circuits.
