
Dual screen mobile phone features an always on electronic paper display
Boasting both an LCD and electronic paper display (EPD) on the flip side, the phone is based on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and features a dual core 1.7 GHz Krait CPU. It works on LTE 800/1800/2600 MHz, UMTS 900/1800/2100 MHz, GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz networks.
Available in black and white, the main screen is a 4.3-inch 720 x1280 LCD with 16.7 million colours and capacitive multi touch funtionality, while the back screen is a 4.3” 360 x 640 EPD with 16 grayscale and a capacitive touch zone below the EPD for gesture controls.
The electronic paper display is always on, but in a less disturbing and more user-friendly way. Users can easily see notices, emails, tweets, and other information in real time without picking up or even activating your phone. The electronic paper display does not have to go dark to save battery life. Even if the battery is empty, the most recent information on the EPD remains visible. The EPD can be used to save important information such as a route on a map, a boarding pass, theatre tickets…
The EPD gives a longer lasting, more comfortable reading experience even in bright sunshine. Further the EPD on the YotaPhone shows all vital notifications of the users choice on-screen for as long as needed or until the user is ready to respond to them. These includes meetings, calls, calendar, weather, reminders and so on.
The phone measures 33.6 x 67 x 9.99 mm, weighs 146g and features a 13 megapixel main camera with autofocus and LED flash, a front 1 megapixel camera, and 2 GB RAM and 32GB eMMC. The phone supports WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 and GPS w/A-GPS + Glonass. Video support at 1080p 30fps includes H.263, H.264 AVC, MPEG-4, WebM. Audio formats are MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, AMR, MIDI, WAV.
Other features include an accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, FM radio, micro-SIM, special YotaPhone gestures and Put2Back applications for the back screen.
