Display manufacturing equipment maker Morphotonics BV (Veldhoven, The Netherlands) has announced a US$10 million funding round.
Founded in 2014, Morphotonics said the funds would be used to establish large-area nanoimprinting as an industry standard in display production and to expand its customer base in Asia.
Investors in the Series B round include 3M, Brabant Development Agency and previous investor Innovation Industries. A second closing is expected by year-end.
Morphotonics large-area roll-to-plate (R2P) nanoimprint technology and equipment solutions enable them to create trillions of lenses across an area greater than one square meter. These can be used for mobile screens, intuitive 3D displays, smartphone displays improved for outdoor reading and immersive augmented reality (AR) smart glasses.
“We are at the brink of major growth for applications like glasses-free 3D displays and smart AR glasses. With this new funding, we will strengthen our market and technical leadership and expand our impact on the consumer electronics and display markets,” said Jan Matthijs ter Meulen, co-founder and CEO of Morphotonics, in a statement.
