E-band transceiver module achieves data rates up to 10 Gbps at 128 QAM

This showcases the versatility of Orpheus, confirming its suitability for deployment across many application areas including mobile backhaul, fronthaul for C-RAN architecture, fibre extension and fibre replacement for enterprise and security networks, Gigabit City roll-outs as well as numerous emerging 5G applications demanding high capacity solutions.

Orpheus modules commenced production in Q4 2015 following a robust qualification phase and are field proven with deployments across multiple countries and several thousand units now shipped.

Operating in the lightly licensed 71 to 76 and 81 to 86 GHz mmWave bands, E-band transceiver modules from Filtronic Broadband exhibit high linearity transmit and receive chains and low phase noise local oscillators support spectrally efficient, high-level adaptive modulation which, together with automatic Tx power and Rx gain control, enable carrier-class performance to be maintained during the most challenging link fade conditions.

Based at their mmWave centre of excellence at NETPark, Sedgefield, in the North East of England, Filtronic Broadband designs and manufactures high-performance microwave and mmWave products employing precision, automated chip and wire manufacturing processes. Novel constructional methods eliminate the performance degradation which arises when mmWave devices are packaged, whilst minimising cost by employing high levels of automation and integration, enabling pre-calibrated modules to simply “drop-in” between a modem and an antenna, without the need for customer investment in the very high capital expenditure equipment associated with E-band.
