Electric trucks have joined the UK’s EV Rally for the first time.

Two e-trucks from DAF and Mercedes joined the EV Rally for the first time travelling to all four capitals of the UK this week. The tour started in Cardiff this morning and over 100 EVs visited Bristol in a chaotic stop on their way to London, Edinburgh and Belfast.

By the end of the week, the EV Rally will have travelled the length of the UK & Ireland and will have completed more than 1200 Miles!

The e-trucks included the BETT (battery electric truck trial) with a DAF Electric LF, a 19-tonne battery electric truck. The truck has a range of up to 175 miles on each battery charge, and can be rapid charged at 150 kW. The e-Actros from Mercedes Benz Trucks has a 448kWh battery pack with a 160kW charger. E-trucks started series production in 2015.

The tour also includes 88.5kWh Maxus electric pickup truck from Chinese car maker Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) as well as the Volkswagen id.buzz and id.4, Tesla, Mercedes EQS, Hynudai Ioniq Ford Mustang Mach-e, Jaguar i-Pace and a variety of other vehicles including the Genesis GV70.

The aim is to demonstrate the variety of electric vehicles, the ability to travel hundreds of kilometres and the availability of charging points along the way.

Notable absences were BYD, the largest selling vehicle maker in Europe, as well as UK brands Lotus and Aston Martin, and larger HGVs.
