The gateway is designed for communication between Modbus controllers in industrial networks and applications in the area of commercial IT. The product allows access to process and machine data of the controllers via the OPC UA interoperability standard or via the MQTT protocol. It supports relevant IT security standards, such as SSL encryption and X.509 certificates. Several applications can also be connected in parallel via the gateway.

OPC UA has established itself as the interoperability standard for OT/IT integration, and MQTT is the preferred communication protocol for many cloud-based applications and IoT platforms. The new gateway thus also supports hybrid architectures in which parts of the overall solution run on site, other parts in the cloud.

“Modbus controllers without integrated OPC UA functionality are widely used in existing systems,” says Sebastian Schenk, Product Manager Industrial Data Intelligence. “With the dataFEED uaGate MB we provide automation with an extremely easy-to-use device that provides a flexible and secure interface in the direction of IT”.

The gateway is low maintenance, robust and based on the same hardware platform as the company’s proven dataFEED uaGate SI gateway. First introduced at the SPS IPC Drives trade fair in November 2017, the products is now commercially available.
