EchoStar and RigNet partner on mobile satellite services
RigNet will distribute equipment and provide secure, reliable and cost-effective connectivity services via the EchoStar XXI spacecraft operating in the S-band spectrum (with a complementary ground component) licensed in the 28 European member states. EchoStar Mobile is a mobile operator providing mobile satellite connectivity across Europe through a hybrid satellite and terrestrial network and a subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation. RigNet is a leading provider of ultra-secure, intelligent networking systems.
Equipment for the EchoStar Mobile network, including advanced IP voice and data terminals, is designed and manufactured by EchoStar subsidiary Hughes Network Systems, LLC.

Owned and operated by parent company, EchoStar, the EchoStar XXI satellite incorporates EchoStar Mobile’s satellite-based platform, designed and developed by EchoStar subsidiary Hughes Network Systems. The platform leverages the ETSI GMR-1 3G air interface standard to enable wireless mobile devices to communicate over the satellite.
The EchoStar Mobile 4200 Portable Data Terminal (PDT), also developed by Hughes Network Systems, is designed for two-way communication, acting as an MSS hotspot that supports all advanced IP services providing 3G/4G-compatible voice and narrowband data services.
PDT provides EchoStar Mobile users in all EU member states—as well as Norway and Switzerland—with connectivity to VoIP and IP data services supported by GMR-1 3G. The EML 4200 is fully approved for operation on EchoStar Mobile’s Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) platform and the EchoStar XXI S-band satellite, providing high-performance connectivity for users—including those in remote locations.
