EdgeCortix joins AI-RAN Alliance for AI in telecom infrastructure
EdgeCortix in Japan has joined the AI-RAN Alliance to boost the use of its edge AI silicon in radio access network (RAN) infrastructure.
The AI-RAN Alliance aims to accelerate the adoption and standardization of AI within wireless communication systems with RAN technologies and mobile networks. As a member, EdgeCortix will use its expertise in AI acceleration and wireless acceleration hardware such as the Sekura II AI chip for adaptive, more energy-efficient network infrastructure for AI-and-RAN.
The AI-RAN Alliance works across three areas. AI-for-RAN aims to enhance radio access networks with AI to improve spectral efficiency; AI-and-RAN integrates AI into RAN processes to optimize infrastructure utilization and unlock new revenue streams; while AI-on-RAN brings AI services to the network edge to boost operational efficiency and deliver innovative services to mobile users.
This follows Verizon teaming up with Nvidia to integrate GPUs into the RAN to run AI frameworks and applications at the edge of the network.
