Edinburgh startup gains support for SPAD-based imaging
Singular Photonics Ltd. (Edinburgh, Scotland), a startup developing SPAD-based image sensors, has attracted veteran UK semiconductor executive Peter Hutton to serve the company as a non-executive director and has received an undisclosed amount of pre-seed funding.
The company is a spin out from CMOS sensors and systems group at the University of Edinburgh and plans to develop high performance “four-dimensional” sensors based on single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). This indicates that such sensors will be able to capture view and depth information at very high temporal rates.
Singular Photonics was founded 2 February 2024 by SPAD sensor expert Professor Robert Henderson and Shahida Imani, who serves as CEO, Aravind Venugopalan Nair Jalajakumari (CTO) and Neil Finlayson (strategic advisor). The company has already associated itself with the Silicon Catalyst UK incubation organization and the UK government’s Chipstart UK programme.
Hutton is chairman of Agile Analog Ltd. and Cambridge GaN Devices Ltd. and previously served as president of the product groups business at Arm Ltd. after holding senior posts at Cadence Design Systems and Wolfson Microelectronics
