Electromobility: Renault invests €1 bn in production expansion
By investing one billion euros in the development and production of electric vehicles in France, the Renault Group is consistently pursuing the objectives of its “Drive the Future” strategic plan. Renault is expanding its production capacity to meet the rapidly growing demand for vehicles running on batteries only.
At the Douai plant, Renault is developing a new alliance platform for electric vehicles. This will create a second production site for electric cars at the site in northern France alongside Flins.
At Flins, Renault is doubling production capacity for the Renault ZOE and is already investing in the next generation of purely battery-powered compact sedans. The plant is the only production site for Europe’s best-selling electric car, of which almost 30,000 units were built in 2017.
At the Cléon plant, Renault triples its production capacity for electric motors. Production preparations are also underway for the new generation of electric motors due to be launched in 2021.
In Maubeuge, Renault is investing in the next generation of the Kangoo family, including the purely electric compact delivery van Kangoo Z.E.
The Renault Group is number one in electric vehicles in Europe and the alliance of alliance partners Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi is the world leader in unit sales.
